Historic New Castle is hosting a two-day Separation Day Celebration this June.
Separation Day marks Delaware’s independence from both Pennsylvania and Britain and is one of the state’s longest-running traditions. The free festival is open to everyone in the area, including those in Wilmington and other towns and cities in northern Delaware. It will begin with a Friday evening kickoff party featuring drinks, live music and food trucks. Admission is free, and food and drinks will be available for purchase.
On Saturday, a parade will feature colonial re-enactors, local organizations, classic cars and more. The parade will travel along Delaware Street to the courthouse. After this, there will be an artisan and vintage market and live music performances for the rest of the afternoon. The market will feature a selection of small businesses, artists, crafters and bakers. Vendors often have Business Cards available for festival goers interested in making a future purchase.
There will also be kids’ rides, games, a beer garden and other food and drinks for sale. All proceeds from alcohol sales will go to the Good Will Fire Company. The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display at 9:30 pm.
The Separation Day Celebration will be on Friday, June 12, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and Saturday, June 13, from 12:00 pm to 9:30 pm, in Historic New Castle.
