Rocky Hill residents start Holiday fundraising

There are many people in and around Rocky Hill who already contribute to the PTO Box Tops for Education scheme.

A great way to raise money for schools in the area, the coupons are easy collected. Simply clipped from a host of grocery items, the printed coupons are given to students to take in, or donated directly, to the school. Each one earns the school 10 cents.

To get the community even more involved, though, the local organizers of the scheme are going to ramp things up a mite. From right now, Box Top collection sites will appear at many other areas in the region, not just at Myrtle H. Stevens and West Hill Elementary.

Coupons can now be dispensed at Cora J. Belden Library, West Side Market, Parks and Recreation, and The Senior Center. Poster printing and flyer printing will likely be taking place to advertise the new collections.

In 2011, across the U.S., over $74 million were raised through the scheme.

Another fundraising drive is also starting across Rocky Hill, with the traditional annual selling of the Historical Society's Holiday ornament. Print shops are probably going to be called upon to give this a mention too.

This year sees the C.B. Gilbert Farm being showcased, harking back to the community's farming traditions.

The sale started yesterday, November 23. Running through until Christmas, each ornament can be bought for $16 at Academy Hall at 785 Old Main Street. All proceeds will go to the Academy Hall Building and Long-Range Planning Fund.
