Graduating correctional officers receive badges

A total of 156 officers have joined the Connecticut Department of Corrections by graduating their training, and more are set to follow in their footsteps this fall.

In his speech to the graduating class Henry C. Lee, an expert in forensics, stated that the graduates should treat their responsibilities as long-term careers because their training brings them more than a mere job.

Robert Petrolito, 56, of Rocky Hill spent over 30 years at Zygo Corp before training as an officer. His son Robert Jr., who is a marine and a veteran, graduated from the program earlier this year and had the honor of giving his father his badge. According to the New Haven Register, both said they were grateful for the experience and expressed pride in each other. Wife and mother Lucy admits that the profession causes her some anxiety, but accepts that it is what they want to do.

Several other correctional officers are retiring after 20 years to receive their full pension, while the new class will have to work 25 years for their full pension.
