In July, the company will be in the Norwich-New London area to film the adaptation of ‘Wishin' and Hopin'’, a holiday novel by Wally Lamb. The story is about a 10-year-old boy named Felix and those around him who learn about life during the Christmas season.
Lamb is a bestselling author from Norwich who has never had a book adapted to film, but President of Synthetic Cinema Andrew Gernhard says he chose the novel because it is a funny story with a lot of heart. Lamb will supervise the film as executive producer. Some of the minor roles in the film will go to locals, and Gernhard will also be looking for actors to be in his next film during the auditions.
Talking about the change in genre direction, Gernhard said:
"We're getting tired of monster movies.
"We're kind of burned out. Instead of investing all our money on violence, blood and gore, this time we're going to spend it on production design, to make it 1964 in our locations."
