Each municipality was awarded an amount from $5,000 to $15,000 depending on how much they participated in Energize Connecticut. The funds are to be used in future endeavors to save energy. Rocky Hill's participation saw it claim $10,000.
Community leaders stood by their respective government representative to celebrate saving 277 million kilowatt-hours of electrical power and 280 million cubic feet of natural gas through the program. Normally, that amount of energy could power 33,000 houses for a year. The savings also prevented 152,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions; equivalent to the output of 26,500 cars in Connecticut in a year.
Robert Klee of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection expressed his gratitude toward the communities for their efforts. He said:
"These cities and towns prove that energy efficiency can benefit an entire community, and we hope they encourage every municipality across Connecticut to join this valuable program."
Clean Energy Communities is a program active throughout Connecticut as part of Energize Connecticut. It gives incentives to areas that make progress in using renewable energy and becoming more energy efficient.
