What's Happening in Greeley, CO…

Pest management focus of Greeley workshop

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques give home gardeners a way to keep their plots healthy, and a Greeley online workshop will offer actionable tips they can put to use right away.

IPM provides environmentally-friendly ways of keeping disease, weeds and insects under control, and it uses methods such as cover cropping, hand picking of pests and other techniques that will be included in the presentation. CSU Extension specialist John Stozie will share his expertise, and it will apply to both ornamental and food plantings.

During the session, the assembled learners will discover which cultural controls may work best for them, and garden design is on the agenda. Biocontrols such as beneficial insects and bacteria will be discussed, and there will also be a review of the more traditional methods that are often used. Organic gardening will be addressed, and the goal is for everyone to walk away with a greater understanding of IPM and how it can benefit them.

The organizers of this educational opportunity noted that they would like to thank Fossil Creek Nursery for sponsoring the session. Incorporating the logo design of a community partner who supports an event like this provides a way to acknowledge their assistance.

This instalment of CSU Extension’s Gardening Series is on the agenda for March 23rd. It will be a virtual workshop, and joining instructions are available on its Facebook listing.
