Greeley green thumbs invited to discover benefits of xeriscaping

Xeriscaping is the art of gardening using as little water as possible, and it can be both fun and a real challenge. For Greeley gardeners interested in finding out more about this type of horticulture, an upcoming class will give them the information they need to put the principles of xeriscaping to use in their own yard, and is free to attend.

During this installment of the Greeley Landscape Lecture series, the public can learn more about low-water gardening and the benefits that go along with it. It is often a budget option that can be environmentally friendly, and since it uses a minimum of chemical pest controls, it can also be kind to the other creatures that call it home.

The students will find out about the seven principles of xeriscaping, and they will also discover how they can adapt these to their own garden space. While the class is free, there are a set number of spaces, so preregistration is required. Learning materials will be distributed, and items like these can be readily obtained from local stationery printers.

This workshop, which is part of Greeley’s Water Conservation Program has been scheduled for January 15. It will be held at 1001 11th Avenue, and more information about the series can be found on the city's website.
