Funk band to perform in Fort Collins

The Boston funk band Lettuce will play a show in Fort Collins in mid-January. This performance will be a part of the band's tour promoting their album Unity.

Lettuce was founded in the summer of 1992 when all of its members were attending Boston's Berklee College of Music. The crew were brought together by similar funk musical interests, and jammed together for that whole summer. However, it would take until the fall of 1994 for the band to rejoin. The name of the band simply comes from the practice of walking into various jazz clubs and asking the owners to "let us (lettuce) play".

From there, mostly through word of mouth, followings for the band would start forming in big cities such as Tokyo, Chicago, New York City, and San Francisco. The band would go on to release eight albums. One of them, Elevate, would go on to be nominated for Instrumental Album of the Year. Another, Crush, reached the number one spot on the U.S. Jazz Albums chart.

The performance will take place at Washington’s at 132 Laporte Avenue on Friday, January 13 at 9:00 pm. Tickets start at $32 and can be purchased on the website of the venue. Bands such as Lettuce can benefit from using printing services to Print Posters and other merchandise for fans.
