The city and county of Denver will be opening a new mountain park. Residents of Aurora will want to take advantage of this new outdoor experience once it opens.
The park will be at Axton Ranch and will be 450 acres in size. The Axton family, which has owned and operated the ranch land for four generations, donated the property to the county and city of Denver.
Mayor of the city of Denver, Mitchell B. Hancock, said the Aston family understands the value of this land and appreciate the 100-year legacy of the park system in the city. He added that when opened, the park will be one of the highlights in the community. The features and benefits of such new parks are often highlighted with flyer printing.
Executive Director of Denver Parks and Recreation, Happy Haynes, said that this park will be managed primarily as a conservation are,a and will also expand access to mountain parks for residents and visitors to the Denver area.
Called the Axton Ranch Mountain Park, the DPR will be working on a master plan to determine its long-term vision. Currently, the conservation efforts of the DPR will focus on watershed stewardship, wildfire mitigation, and wildlife habitat conservation.
It is expected that the Denver City Council will approve the donation in March, so that the property can officially become a mountain park.
