The all-female group Celtic Woman is an Irish outfit, put together in 2004 to take part in a special event in Dublin. The group was created by music producer David Kavannagh, director and producer Avril MacRory, and producer Sharon Brown, with David Downes as musical director. Downes had previously been a music director for “Riverdance,” the outstanding ensemble that has gone on to worldwide success.
The original group comprised Lisa Kelly, Chloë Agnew, Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, and Órla Fallon, vocals, and Máiréad Nesbitt as a fiddler. Downes was also meticulous in building a catalog of music that included everything from current tunes to traditional melodies.
In 2004, the group released “Celtic Woman,” and have gone on to release a total of 27 albums. The most recent, which dropped in 2022, is entitled “Christmas Cards from Ireland,” one of many that has either a holiday, gathering, or Christmas theme. Three of their albums earned Platinum status, and they have released DVD versions of a number of their CDs. They have been seen on PBS several times, and were six-time recipients of the Billboard World Album Artist of the Year. A review says:
“ . . . few in the appreciative audience wanted to say so long to the charms, and showmanship, of Celtic Woman.”
The group will be at Boettcher Hall on December 12 at 7.30pm. When performances like this are scheduled, organizers can use poster printing to create advertising to promote them.
