Tribute to 1960s music legend to take place
A show honoring a music great is sure to give San Rafael residents a unique experience in early August.
Purple Haze is both a song by Jimi Hendrix and the name of a widely popular tribute band. The band was founded by Ralph Woodson, originally under the name Ralph Woodson Experience. His dedication to crafting an entertaining show, along with his love for the material he is performing, has seen Purple Haze gain a strong fanbase of its own. Other band members include Leo Vigil and Pete Roberts.
Hendrix worked first in music as a session and back-line guitarist before making the jump towards the lead position. He rose to fame with the group The Jimi Hendrix Experience, although his most iconic performance, at 1969’s Woodstock Music & Art Fair, was as a solo performer. A few of the most recognizable Hendrix tracks are “All Along the Watchtower,” “Purple Haze,” “Spanish Castle Magic,” and “Sweet Angel.”
The concert will be held at Sweetwater Music Hall, which is located in the nearby town of Mill Valley. The venue has a restaurant and bar called the Rock & Rye. Sweetwater also offers merchandise displaying their venue’s logo design.
The show is on Friday, August 11. Doors will open up at 8:00 pm, with the concert following an hour later at 9:00 pm. Tickets can be found on SMH’s website, with a value of $26.
