The San Rafael Downtown Business Improvement District, formed over 20 years ago, currently consists of a committee with a focus on assisting business owners in the downtown district to develop new business and host events. It serves as a downtown merchant association and also an advisory board for the city council of San Rafael.
A restructuring campaign is underway by the BID for the purpose of converting from an ad hoc committee structure to an incorporated non-profit entity, becoming a formal business based improvement district. Part of the restructuring plan includes increasing paid membership from just over 100 members to approximately 600. It will also diversify membership from retail and dining at this time to include a broader base of business classifications. The geographical area in the restructuring plan will expand if the proposed plan is accepted by the business owners in the downtown area and ultimately by the city council.
The Business Improvement District has sent out campaign packets with information regarding the new proposal, hoping to gain support from merchants located in the downtown area. The BID intends to submit petitions and testimonials to the city council in early June to support the restructuring plan.
San Rafael printing companies work closely with the Business Improvement District and the merchants in providing Print services for the various efforts and events taking place in the downtown area, as well as for the individual businesses. Flyer, brochure, banner, and business card printing are frequently required for events, as well as for new businesses.
