San Rafael set for spooks

The Marin Country Mart Farmers’ Market will be the venue for the upcoming Halloween Carnival in San Rafael.

The carnival is family friendly and open to everyone. Starting with a costume swap, the event allows recycling and reuse of previous years’ costumes.

Dogs can participate in the Costume Pup Parade from 11:00 until 11:30 a.m. Ongoing activities will include fun activities for the children such as face painting and pony rides.

Christopher Smith will provide music for the kids and SCRAP will offer Halloween crafts. SCRAP uses old materials to encourage reduction of waste and elevated creativity.

One of the highlights of the Halloween Carnival is the food. Festive treats from many vendors will be available such as fresh apple cider and apple pressing. Banner printing for the vendor booths can be handled by a local Print company.

A special visit by award-winning carver with Art Chef will stop by later in the day, creating elaborate carved pumpkins. Giant pumpkins will also be on display, where visitors can guess their weight and perhaps win a prize.

The Marin County Mart pumpkin patch is another must-stop for families to pick up locally grown organic pumpkins. This is a chance to try out some of the new skills learned at the pumpkin carving activity.

The event takes place this weekend, getting underway on Saturday at 9:00 am.
