San Rafael musicians to join forces

Several groups of performers will be taking part in a unique show in mid-March.

Family Concert is an event where the Marin Symphony and its Youth Orchestra take to the stage together and play a set of several compositions. The show will also feature a solo performance by the winning musician from the Concerto Competition, as well as a narrated piece to close out the evening.

The concert will be conducted by Alasdair Neale, with David Latulippe providing the voice for the narration. Jesse Chi will be playing “Artunian’s Trumpet Concerto in Ab Major” as the winning contest performer. The tunes being performed by the group as a whole include “Light Cavalry Overture” by Franz von Suppe, “Carnival Overture” Op. 92 by Dvorak, and “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” Op. 34 by Benjamin Britten. The last piece listed will be the one featuring Latulippe’s narration.

Tickets for children ages 6 to 17 cost just $17, with options for adult guests ranging from $25 to $42. A subscription option decreases the prices to $15 for kids and $20 to $35 for other seats. The subscriptions can be purchased through the Marin Symphony website, while tickets to just this performance can be found on the Marin Symphony site and the site for Marin Center. Poster printing is frequently used to advertise musical events, including those put on by local groups.

The venue for the concert is the Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium. Masks will need to be worn while attending, unless actively drinking or eating. The show is set to begin at 3:00pm on March 19th.
