Natural event to be honored in San Rafael

An annual experience is set to be celebrated with a unique activity in mid-September in San Rafael.

Dance In Nature - an Autumn Equinox Celebration is an event where attendees honor the incoming fall season with a calming dance meant to help improve a person’s mindfulness.

The equinox in this case is the marking of the sun passing over into the Earth’s southern hemisphere. This will lead to shorter periods of sunlight for those in the northern hemisphere, as well as the fall season. During the exact time of the equinox, the time/length of both night and day should be roughly equal to one another.

This celebration is put on by Wild Moves, with the dancing being headed by Tess Howell. A unique aspect of this class is that there is not a set routine to learn. Each person will have what is known as a “Silent Disco Headset.” Through this tool, the music will be played, along with an occasional piece of guidance.

The venue is the China Camp Village, and the dancing will take place outdoors by the bay. Flyer printing will often be done to promote events like this one.
The event is open to all, with tickets running between $20 and $25. The dance will last from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Saturday, September 17. The autumn equinox itself will follow on September 22.
