Marin County hosts Hack4Health to engage tech minded students

While Marin County in general is one of the healthiest areas of the United States, according to national rankings, there are still a large number of residents who are not doing as well as others. To try and gain a better understanding of why that it could be, the Department of Information Services and Technology is partnering with the Department of Health and Human Services to host a hackathon.

A hackathon is an event where tech-minded individuals get together to try and put together a code project as quickly as possible, marathon style. Government agencies and municipalities alike use the hackathon idea to localize problem solving.

Specifically in Marin, the county has shared information regarding obesity, emergency medical services, and opioid use. The hope is that students, from middle school to college, will come together to identify patterns and offer creative solutions to identified issues. Students enrolled in grades 7 through 12 at schools in Marin, such as San Rafael, or at the College of Marin, can register for the event. Events of this nature are often advertised with flyer printing.

The Hack4Health event will take place at 1111 Las Gallinas Avenue, at the Marin County Office of Education. The hackathon will take place on April 1, starting at 8:30 am, and those interested in either supporting the event or registering should contact Marin County via hackmarin@marincounty.org.
