Kristina Hopkins has a wealth of experience when it comes to teaching English, and she has been named the new principal for San Pedro Elementary School located in San Rafael.
Hopkins was previously employed at Voices College-Bound Language Academy located in Pinole. It is a bilingual school that teaches grades TK-3. People tend to get new Business Cards when taking on a new employment role.
A video recorded in both Spanish and English was sent out by Hopkins where she expressed her delight at being able to work for the community. She is scheduled to start work on 1st July, with an annual salary of about $116,864.
Jim Hogeboom, who is the superintendent for San Rafael City Schools stated that Hopkins was selected following an intense selection process. Hogeboom also said that Hopkins was the obvious choice because of her extensive background as an educator and her mastery of languages.
Hopkins will be replacing Mimi Melodia who has been in San Rafael for five years. Melodia herself is a graduate of San Rafael City Schools. Her final statement before leaving the post was:
“My center is my students, families and staff with whom I’ve had the privilege of working. My students drove my work in equity and inclusion with an emphasis on high standards of academic excellence.”
The district plans to hire a total of three new principals for its elementary schools this year. The selection processes to fill the positions at Sun Valley and Venetia Valley schools are both ongoing.
