Rancho Cucamonga’s transparency regarding its police activity has received praise from the White House in light of President Barack Obama’s Police Task Force’s recent recommendation to make such data available to the public.
A contingent from Rancho Cucamonga was invited to the White House for an April 22 gathering to explain the online dashboard the city uses to keep the public informed. The one-day gathering was to allow cities wishing to respond to the Police Data Initiative’s recommendations to benefit from Rancho Cucamonga’s experience.
Rancho Cucamonga launched its public safety online dashboard in April of last year. The dashboard provides real-time updates on the number of traffic and crime incidents respectively, as well as response times for emergency services. These are the same categories that are suggested by the Police Data Initiative for cities to provide to their residents.
Information supplied by the Rancho Cucamonga’s online dashboard, as well as its very presence, will no doubt have found its way in Presentation Folders used by the city to ‘sell’ companies on locating here. Real Estate agents will also want to include this data in the information they supply to their brochure printers.
As of March 2016, police response time averages 3.8 minutes for emergency calls. These figures will become increasingly meaningful to stakeholders as more cities provide this information and companies and families can compare crime rates and response times.
