Students win academic decathlon

Students of Rancho Cucamonga High School recently won the San Bernardino County Academic Decathlon, something the school has never achieved before.

In the past, the closest they have come to winning is two second place
showings. The year they beat two area schools, Redlands High and Chaffey
High who have prevailed in since 2005 with several wins each.

The winning team and runners-up were honored at a ceremony held on February 6th at the Ontario DoubleTree Hotel. At the ceremony, participants were awarded with trophies and medals. There were also several certificates distributed to participants, which are created using one of many printing services offered by nearby Print shops. The winning team may even be tempted to obtain banner printing services to proudly display their achievement.

The event tests participants in ten subject areas which include unplanned speeches, essay writing, math and a variety of other topics. The winning team battled against 26 schools, some of which had several teams. The theme for this year’s event was the 1960’s.

The event, held on February 2nd, is the stepping stone to the state-wide Academic Decathlon. That event will take place in Sacramento on March 22nd and 23rd. The top three winners of the San Bernardino County event will face off against another county school in California. This year Redland High and Chaffey High will each again have teams attending along with the winning Rancho Cucamonga High team.
