The Rancho Cucamonga Service Station Museum on the historic Route 66 is raising funds through calendar sales.
Route 66 was one of the first transcontinental highways in the United States, stretching from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California. For decades it served as both a conduit for the demographic shifts of farm to city, heartlands to coast, and as fodder for road trip adventures of all kinds. The building of high-speed interstates rendered its use as a conduit obsolete, but its place in American history has been enshrined in popular culture, and it remains a nostalgic tourist attraction.
The museum, which was originally a Richfield gas station, has occupied the same location for over 100 years. It was designated as an historical site in 2009, and is currently owned by the Route 66 Inland Empire California (IECA), a non-profit organization which restored the building and opened it to the public as a museum in 2015.
The Rancho Cucamonga site is missing its original rear garage, which IECA intends to rebuild with the money received from calendar sales.
Promotional Products like Calendars can be effective tools for organizations to raise awareness and needed funds for projects such as this. The Route 66 Inland Empire California calendar will showcase the winners from its annual car show, which is another fundraising event. The rebuilt garage will offer additional museum and display space, as well as meeting rooms.
