The lake at Red Hill Park will not be returning to its picturesque formal glory for at least nine months, the City Council has revealed.
Renovation work on the now drained Red Hill Park Lake is now on hold. City council rejected all bids on the project because none of them were within the $250,000 budget set aside for the work. It was revealed by the Rancho Cucamonga city engineer, at the April 1 city council meeting, that the lowest bid received was 18% over the original estimate.
As a result, council has shelved plans for having renovations completed by Memorial Day weekend. Instead a new two-pronged plan that involves city officials looking for ways to reduce costs for the renovations and holding another round of bidding later in the year will be implemented. The new goal is for the work to begin in early 2016.
In September 2014 the council agreed to use $250,000 borrowed from the city’s general fund to modernize, refurbish, and refill the lake. The plan was for the landscape management district to pay back Rancho Cucamonga’s money from its budget. However, with the lowest bid coming in at $294,745, a rethink has been necessary.
One possibility might be to engage the services of a printing company to publicize the situation and seek possible solutions, as well as donations from the public and civic organizations.
