Rancho Cucamonga to host fire preparedness course

Rancho Cucamonga residents and businesses looking to increase their fire preparedness should note that the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District (RCFD) Emergency Management Division is hosting a virtual Home, Holiday, and Wildfire Safety Training this December.

The RCFD Emergency Management Division’s purpose is to help residents and businesses with preparation before, during, and after a natural disaster. To fulfill this mission, the division’s ReadyRC program provides several preparedness programs. The Home, Holiday, and Wildfire Safety Training will teach attendees how to act if a wildfire or home fire occurs.

The free 90-minute course will be conducted virtually over Zoom. Attendees will learn about Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), which is when the power be may shut off in the event of severe weather, such as high winds, to prevent wildfires. The course will address emergency notifications and how to receive and understand them. It will also offer tips on how to prevent fires at home during the holidays.

The guest speaker will be Erin Johnson, the outreach manager for the Theodore Payne Foundation. She will be speaking on how to protect one’s home from wildfires using fire-wise landscaping.

The virtual course is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Those interested can visit cityofrc.us to register. Such virtual events often employ graphic design artists to maintain a visually appealing website.
