Rancho Cucamonga seeks input on the future of Central Park

Rancho Cucamonga City Council has decided to take the plans for the city’s unfinished 100-acre Central Park back to the drawing board and include public input in its revisions.

The Rancho Cucamonga Central Park Plan is the long-term design for the city’s largest park. A 30-acre section of the park has been developed and contains a playground, Freedom Courtyard, community and senior center, and a pavilion complete with picnic facilities.

The Central Park Plan was first put together 30 years ago and has undergone a few modification since then. The latest revision has the park being added onto in two additional 30-acre phases. The addition of various amenities was to comprise the fourth phase of the project.

The city is now considering a change to smaller, more buildable 3-to-10-acre segments. These small plots would facilitate the city’s ability to obtain grants to cover expenses. Part of obtaining funding is making use of Print companies to promote sponsorship by businesses or enlist the public’s help.

To gain public input, the Park and Recreation Commission decided to hold three workshops, the first of which has already taken place. The last two are scheduled for September 19 and October 9 at Goldy S. Lewis Community Center from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Moreover, the public can present their ideas online via a link on the Rancho Cucamonga website.
