Rancho Cucamonga recent recipient of Green Region Award

The City of Rancho Cucamonga has received validation for its Sustainable Community Action Plan from the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) in the form of a ‘Green Region’ Award.

The 2018 SCAG Sustainability Awards were presented at the organization’s Regional Conference and General Assembly, which took place in Indian Wells on May 3 – 4. The largest metropolitan planning association in the United States, SCAG welcomed more than 900 of the most influential innovators, leaders, and policymakers of Southern California.

An assortment of expert panels, technical demonstrations and keynote presentations addressed this year’s theme ‘Southern California at a Crossroads’. This, the 53rd such event was also where the organization recognized outstanding sustainable planning in Southern California.

With a grant of $150,000 from SCAG, the groundwork for Rancho Cucamonga’s plan began in August 2013 and was finalized and adopted in April 2017. The city’s sustainability framework is part of its more encompassing Healthy RC initiative that City Council put in place in 2008.

To receive this award so soon after implementation of the city’s plan is a feather in the city’s cap, and printing services will likely be given this information to include in any Rancho Cucamonga promotional materials.

A key component of Rancho Cucamonga’s plan was the widespread public outreach campaign that brought thousands of citizens, business, students and community organizations on board and pulling together.
