Rancho Cucamonga courting sun in pursuit of energy

The residents of Rancho Cucamonga have shown a growing interest in using solar energy to provide electricity to their homes. Now, it is anticipated that a new incentive program will spur interest even more.

Put forward by Sullivan Solar Power, the move will offer money to Rancho Cucamonga residents who go solar.

The Sullivan Solar Power incentive is modeled after the rebate program used by the California Solar Initiative. The key feature of these programs is that those who come onboard early benefit more; residents can receive a cash incentive up to $2,000, but the amount of the incentive goes down as more homeowners participate.

Rancho Cucamonga has made a commitment to becoming one of the most solar-friendly cities in the area and, to this end, officials have reduced fees. As a result, solar applications have doubled. The new incentive program is expected to cause the rate for solar application to grow even faster.

According to Erica Johnson, Sullivan Solar’s director of community development, the decision to start an incentive program in Rancho Cucamonga was prompted by the increasing interest already expressed by the community.

Usually, programs such as this one use brochure printers to inform the public about costs and advantages associated with them. Sullivan Solar’s incentive program ends on July 15th, and participation is limited to 100 households.
