Rancho Cucamonga community service staff drop off donations to seniors

Amidst the coronavirus outbreak, local community staff members are distributing food supplies during a drive-thru donation effort.

Residents living in Rancho Cucamonga have been giving away canned foods, packaged snacks, cleaning wipes, and toilet paper to seniors in need as the city deals with a shortage of essential supplies. City staff will make these into care packages and deliver them to retired seniors at their homes.

Senior citizens aged 65 and older will also receive $10 gift cards to shop at Ralph's grocery store. A total of $100 worth of gift cards were donated by kind-hearted locals. They can choose to pick up packages at the Goldy S. Lewis Community Center, or can ask volunteers to drop off the packages at their house instead.

All seniors who are registered in this program are eligible. The center does accept gift cards if people are unable to make a trip to the local store. Volunteers will be frequenting the market to buy groceries in large quantities, since many businesses have closed down. Health officials state that this is meant to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

At this donation drive, personal items from soap to hand sanitizers are most in-demand for care packages. Donations are being accepted Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Stationery printers can enhance aesthetics of care packages with colorful patterns and wrappings.
