The California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) has included Los Amigos Park in Rancho Cucamonga among its 2018 Award of Excellence Recipients.
Los Amigos Park covers almost four acres and opened in spring of 2017 between Ninth Street and Arrow Route on Madrone Avenue’s east side.
Awards and other honors are usually included in promotional materials sent to Print shops to market the community.
The award was in the Neighborhood Class 2 distinction of the Park Planning & Development Category and was presented at the Convention Center in Long Beach during CPRS Conference & Expo.
The park was funded by a grant of $3.9m, which was awarded in part due to community input being used in the planning and design. Features include a bridge that transports pedestrians to a multipurpose field under which storm water is carried off via a basin designed for water conservation.
The park also contains playgrounds, a skating space, and basketball courts. One of the most popular features according to Rancho Cucamonga’s Community Service Director Jennifer Garcia has been the park’s water misting system.
Garcia explained that the park has proved to be a popular destination for residents of local neighborhoods. Adults using the exercise equipment, teenagers coming to play basketball or skate, and families with small children can all be seen on a daily basis.
