Local lake reveals lost curiosities

Due to pollution, a process of draining Red Hill Park Lake has got underway this month, and the city of Rancho Cucamonga is clearing out the accumulation of items that had found their way into the water.

Some items, such as the nearly 50 cell phones, cameras, and batteries are somewhat to be expected. Other items, like the remote controlled cars and skateboards are a little harder to explain. Those items that really had city employees scratching their head include two guns and an LAPD badge.

More than 100 turtles and dozens of fish were found in the lake, none of which were expected to be there. It is assumed that Rancho Cucamonga residents who grew tired of keeping them for pets released them into their new “home”. The animals are being carefully relocated to healthier accommodations.

The lake has been a backdrop for numerous special occasions and treasured memories for many locals, but some residents have expressed fear that memories are all that they will be left with where Red Hill Park Lake is concerned.

The deputy city manager assures residents that the lake will return as beautiful as ever and more efficient. Perhaps a printing company could be engaged to help educate the public to keep the new lake in pristine condition, and to keep paying it a visit.
