Local centenarian keeps going strong

Reaching 100 years of age is a milestone few attain, but Joe Fromer has already “been there and done that”, and on July 27 celebrated his 104th birthday.

The birthday boy, who resides at Atria Del Rey, enjoyed well wishes from staff, and other residents. In addition to cake and the traditional singing of “Happy Birthday”, Fromer received special recognition of the occasion from the City of Rancho Cucamonga.

With growing demand, competition among retirement and assisted living facilities is intense. Brochure printers provide effective advertisement, particularly when celebrations such as the one recently held at the Atria Del Rey are included in promotional materials

On hand for the occasion was Joe’s 82-year-old son, Bob Fromer. When asked about his father’s longevity, the younger Fromer attributes his dad’s long life to “good genes”, a mild attitude, and a natural aptitude for contentment.

The elder Fromer has certainly been blessed with good health. He lived on his own until he was 99, up until a few months ago could still walk, and takes no medication. According to Joe Fromer, he still enjoys interacting with people and making them laugh.

Fromer was born in New Britain, Connecticut in 1911 and lived most of his life in New York. A musician in his earliest working years, Joe turned to building and repairing home electronic equipment and taught electronics in Williamsburg, New York for 25 years.
