Landmark grocery store opens in Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga’s second Sprouts grocery store, which is the 100th Sprouts in California, has opened in a neighborhood shopping center known as Alta Loma Plaza.

The ribbon-cutting of the new Sprouts attracted hundreds of shoppers. The customers entered to the sound of applauding employees to explore the new supermarket. What they found was a sizable vitamin section, a fully stocked meat department, and a large produce department.

Sprouts moved into the space vacated by a Filipino supermarket called Island Pacific, and will now anchor the shopping center, which also has a Del Taco, a Walgreens, and several other shops. The grocer is based in Phoenix Arizona and operates in 13 states. The company first came to Rancho Cucamonga in October of 2005, and there are now over 250 Sprouts open in the U.S.

Natalie Merrick, Sprouts’ regional marketing manager for California, remarked following the ribbon cutting that the store was filling a longtime desire for the neighborhood to have its own Sprouts. She said almost to a person the new store’s first shoppers said they had shopped a Sprouts store previously, and many said they were able to reach the Alta Loma Plaza store on foot.

It will be up to 14-year Sprouts employee Scott Lindop, who is at the new store’s helm, to engage local marketing services to reach those Rancho Cucamonga residents who have never shopped Sprouts before.
