At Camp Fiesta Island, a Rancho Cucamonga Boy Scout troop recently was awarded its third Honor Troop Award in as many years of participation.
Troop 641, won its first Honor Troop Award in 2013 at Fiesta Island, its second award in 2015 at Camp Emerson, and again this year at Fiesta Island. Scoutmaster Harley Green pointed out that in 2015, the award won by Troop 641 was the Golden Knot Award, which was Camp Emerson’s equivalent of the Honor Troop award. All but one scout in the troop attended this summer’s activities at Camp Fiesta Island.
Green further explained, in a press release, that the troop did not take part in the competition in 2014 preferring instead to make a canoe trip 50 miles down the Colorado River, rather than attend camp. Gaining financial support for scout troops, as well as increased attendance, is facilitated by promoting awards won and fun activities such as camp or the afore mentioned canoe trip. With the help of brochure printers, individual troops can inform local businesses and families of what they have to offer.
Troop 641 is part of the Old Baldy District, which comes under the jurisdiction of the California Inland Empire Council. The Honor Award, as well as the Golden Knot Award, which are awarded at Camp Fiesta and Camp Emerson respectively, is only presented to one troop each year.
