As contributions have lagged, one of the High Desert’s largest nonprofits has agreed to a merger with another, similar Inland Empire group.
Desert Communities United Way (DCUW), based in Apple Valley, announced in the first week of March that it will merge with the Rancho Cucamonga branch of the Inland Empire United Way. DCUW has provided health services to the High Desert for the last five decades.
DCUW board of directors’ chairman, David North, said in a statement:
“This merger will allow DCUW to maintain a local presence and leadership, while strength of the combined organizations will increase our ability to serve our local communities.”
The merger, which should be completed by June, will enable leveraging of each organization's base of donors, as well as streamlining their shared services to create greater efficiency. School Tools and Kids’ Food Packs are two examples of programs that each nonprofit administers that would be less costly if merged. The organizations have several longstanding programs on which they already partner.
A new organization will be the result, and Stationery printers will be asked to use the name Desert Communities Region of the Inland Empire United Way on such items as Letterheads, digital Business Cards, and brochure. Desert Region will continue to maintain a staffed physical location while administering services under the new name.
