The Cucamonga Home Wine Society is offering old grapevines for sale at $25 per tree.
This would let residents in Rancho Cucamonga adopt live grape trees to start crafting their own wines at home. According to George Walker, president of the Home Wine Society, a lot of people have been marking grapevines to claim them at a later date. These grapevines were grown at a well-known grape-picking site between Fourth Street and Haven Avenue. This area was the ideal place to craft wine using traditional brewing methods.
The last time grapes were harvested from the vineyard was in 2017, by the property owner, Galleano Winery. Walker was sent a request by the city’s planning director to dispose of the remaining vines after the take-home sale. People will be able to park in a paved lot next to the property. They are advised to bring digging tools to pull up the shrubs, which are firmly planted into the soil. The buyers would have to get a portion of the taproot so new vines can grow.
They can pay Walker’s volunteers a fee to help them carry the grapevines on their pickup truck. While the vines could use some pruning, they are still budding and very much alive. The vineyard will be open to buyers on Saturday, February 22. Poster printing is often used to advertise giveaway events like this one.
