Placerville residents who would like to learn how they can maximize the production of their own garden patch can find out how to do it as part of a workshop in the area.
Hosted by UCCE Master Gardeners of El Dorado County, learners will discover how they can make the most of their crop by converting it into jams, preserves and even pie fillings, and this portion of the event will be led by a UCCE Master Food Preserver.
The students will be led through a discussion of the various type of small fruit species commonly available in the market, and they will also offer details about which species and cultivars in which types of growing conditions. A review of diseases and pest control will also be included in the presentation.
After the horticultural portion of the workshop is over, the Master Food Preparers will being their portion of the event. They will show how easy it can be to make jellies, jams, flavored vinegars and other products, and this will all be taking place in Cameron Park community Center.
This three hour long session is open to anyone who is interested, and RSVPs are appreciated. Full color handouts and other materials can be prepared by area Print shops for an event like this, and these can help the students to gain as much from the class as possible.
