Placerville Christmas Parade has frosty theme

A Christmas tradition will once again take to the streets of Placerville for the Hangtown Christmas Parade.

The parade was started by the Taylor Family many years ago. The family owns Hangman's Tree Ice Cream Saloon on Main Street. Tim and Sue Taylor say the parade celebrates everything that makes Placerville and El Dorado County a wonderful place to call home.

This year's theme is ‘It's A Frosty Christmas in Old Hangtown’. Those wanting to be part of the parade, or become a sponsor, can visit the Hangtown Christmas Parade website.

Floats and parade sponsors can use graphic design and banner printing to advertise in and around holiday festivals like these.

There is no fee to watch the parade. However, attendees are asked to bring a toy for the local Toys for Tots campaign. Toys can be dropped off at the Bell Tower and will be distributed to families in the region. Last year, Toys for Tots handed out more than 14,500 toys to more than 1,300 children.

The 2019 Grand Marshal is J. Stirling, who has been actively involved in the community for more than 30 years. Stirling is the leader of the Hangtown Marshals, a group whose members dress as historic lawmen and bring the community's history to life at events and walkabouts downtown.

The Placerville Hangtown Christmas Parade is Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 pm. It starts on upper Broadway and continues down Main Street past the Bell Tower. Streets on and near the parade route will close at noon.
