There are a couple events taking place to usher in the Christmas holiday season in the Placerville area early next month.
The first event planned is the Run with Santa 5K that will be held in nearby Cameron Park on December 2. Fees to enter are $25 for adults in advance and $30 on the day or $15 or $20 for children aged 17 and younger. A number of ugly sweaters have been donated to the event for participants to wear. The run will be followed by the Cameron Fire Department’s pancake breakfast at 12:00 noon.
The next day is the annual Hangtown Christmas Parade in Placerville. The theme of this year’s parade is ‘A Child’s Dream’. The parade will begin at Upper Broadway and travel down Historic Main Street. Applications are still being accepted for participants and the only fee is a donation of an unwrapped toy to Toys for Tots. Almost anything is allowed in the parade, including horses, marching bands, floats, and vehicles, but they all have to be decorated with the Christmas spirit and no one can feature Santa Claus in their group.
