Petaluma walk to visit waterfowl in their natural habitat

Fall has arrived, and that means it is time for Petaluma birders to take advantage of an opportunity on offer to them right in their own area.

Cemetery Marsh attracts a diverse range of waterfowl, and an outing has been planned that will pay them a visit in their natural habitat.

The participants in the walk can expect to see many species of ducks, and geese may even be on the water as well. The site also attracts herons, stilts, avocets and sandpipers, and the group will also spend some time observing these birds.

The organizers of the excursion noted that the route is about three miles long, and should be an easy hike for most. It will be led by Suzanne Weakly, and if it is, raining it may be cancelled. The group has been asked to meet up at the preserve’s Binford Road entrance, and they are also reminded that they may wish to bring equipment such as binoculars, their camera, a field guide, snacks and a drink. Sturdy hiking shoes are strongly recommended.
