Petaluma set to showcase sheep shearing
Spring is sheep shearing season, and a Petaluma activity will provide the inside scoop on how the harvested fleece is transformed into a variety of garments and other textiles.
Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park will be kicking off the season with its “Sheep to Sweater” day, and it will put the heritage breed sheep that call Flat Broke Farm Animal Rescue home in the spotlight. Shearing expert John Sanchez will demonstrate his expertise, and this is just the start of what will be offered.
Once the sheep have been sheared, the attendees will find out how it is carded and then spun into yarn that can be used to prepare a cozy sweater. There will be volunteers on hand teaching spinning techniques that use a drop style spindle, and guided tours will be available. Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic lunch.
The event’s official online listing explained that all of the sheep that will be on site are adoptable, and a booth will be set up that provides more details about this. Pamphlets and other materials prepared by a brochure printing company can be an effective way to share a large volume of information in a small amount of space.
This Sheep to Sweater event will begin at 11:00 am on April 12. It is requested that attendees leave their pets at home.
