An event that believes beauty is in the eye of the beholder is going to make its return to Petaluma this June, putting unconventionally beautiful dogs in the spotlight.
The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest has been celebrated for nearly 50 years, and it will welcome pooches from all over. While it is intended to be a fun occasion, it will also help to raise awareness of animal welfare issues, and there will be information supplied about local pet rescue and rehoming groups.
The day will open with entertainment and information about the value of adoption and also general pet care. After this, the dogs and their owners will take to the red carpet, and they will be evaluated by a panel of judges. It will be a friendly competition with each contestant needing to supply a health certificate from a vet, and there will be an on-site check-up before the contest begins.

The Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds will be giving ugly dogs their day in the sun on Friday, June 23. The event has a scheduled start time of 6:00 pm.
