Homemade soap and lotions made from naturally sourced ingredients can be gentle on both the skin and pocketbook. A soap expert will be guiding a group of learners from the Petaluma area in a class that will share secrets of crafting toiletries at home.
The three-hour class will teach the techniques used in cold process soap-making, and each of the attendees will go home with soap and some of the lotion they have helped to create. Whenever possible, locally sourced ingredients will be used, and the workshop is being offered at Wild Oat Hollow in Penngrove.
The students will learn about both soap and lotion making, and they will discover how to use a soap calculator to determine the recipe they will use. They will each take home two bars of soap to cure at home, and they will also receive a lotion samples, a reusable mold, and tips for making and decorating toiletries they can keep or give as a gift.
The class is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm sharp, and the handmade soap will take at least two weeks to cure. Printed instruction sheets can be given to each participant so they can make their own sap at home, and these can be obtained from Stationery printers in the area.
May 4 has been set as the date for this chance to learn new soap making skills. The fee to participate is $50.
