Petaluma’s Shollenberger Park is home to many varieties of birds and other wildlife, and local birders are welcome to pay them a guided visit.
The park provides the feathered set with a variety of habitats, and more than 200 species have been spotted in its marshes, meadows, and other areas. Petaluma Wetlands Alliance is offering a program of docent-led Bird and Nature Walks, and it was explained that these have been adapted to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On the day of the walk, the registrants will meet up at the main entrance kiosk, and everyone is asked to make sure they wear a mask. The organizer noted that the trail the group will follow is flat and accessible to those who need a wheelchair or other mobility device. It is highly recommended that the participants bring binoculars, water and a hat, and the route is approximately two miles long.
Many birders like to record the species they see, and are excited when they get to spot a “lifer”. Birding Journals will make it easy for them to make any notes they wish, and a printing services company can prepare them to hand out during this sort of activity.
This visit to see the birds of Shollenberger Park is scheduled to start at 9:00 am on March 13. Petaluma Wetlands Alliance is a 501c3 registered not-for-profit organization.
