The area that surrounds Petaluma is home to many farms, both large and small. A selection of these operations will be opening their gates to the public this fall so they can get a sneak peek into where their food comes from.
Farmers throughout Sonoma County will be participating in this year’s Weekend Along the Farm Trails, which will be held in October. Registration is required for the event, and those who do will receive details through email about the different locations along the route.
A variety of operations will be included in the self-guided tour. Farms as well and produce stands, dairies, apiaries and other establishments will all be participating, offering a fun way to discover some of the hidden gems that can be found throughout the county. The public can see how cheese is made, pick a pumpkin, find out how honey is harvested and participate in an assortment of other activities.
Since many of the stops will have produce and other items for sale, the participants may wish to bring along a reusable shopping bag and cooler. The farms that participate in this type of event can count on their local Print shops to supply them with any printed materials needed to make the most of the occasion.
This opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look into the area’s agricultural community will be welcoming the public on October 12 and 13. It is advised that everyone who plans on taking part wears comfortable shoes, as they may be doing a lot of walking.
