Tolay Fall Festival is underway, giving the public two weekends enjoying good old-time, nature-based fun.
Having got underway last weekend, school groups will be able to attend during this week.
The festival is about more than just pumpkins in a patch; it aims to help visitors realize the beauty and the history of the park itself. The festival activities are therefore of a low-key nature, offering interactive and educational enjoyment.
Visitors will be able to explore a ‘Nighttime Creatures Barn’ that exhibits native and exotic snakes, birds, tide pool animals, and taxidermy wildlife. They can see tarantulas and scorpions glowing under black lights in the ‘Creepy Crawly Room’, and can take a hayride to visit the pumpkin patch, visit a Native American village and try their hand at wool carding or candle dipping, or participate in a pumpkin seed spitting contest. Local vendors will be on site selling food and desserts. Those with vending booths might benefit from digital Business Cards that further promote their businesses.
There will also be demonstrations including archery, fly fishing and astronomy, and there will be contests like gunny sack races and straw maze navigation. A barnyard petting zoo will allow guests to get to know some of the animals.
It comes to an end this weekend, October 22 and 23, at Tolay Lake Regional Park in Petaluma.
