Emergencies can strike at any time, and during a course that will be offered in Oakland, members of the public will have a chance to learn what to do should one happen to them.
Communities of Oakland Respond to Emergencies (CORE) is hosting series of workshops that will teach attendees what to do in an emergency. The first will address what people can do in their own homes, such as preparing disaster kits, reducing hazards in the house, and how to create a plan for the family to follow should there be a crisis.
In the second session, the facilitator will address safety from a community-based point of view. Participants will learn about light search and rescue, how to set up emergency teams and a neighborhood command post, neighborhood support, first aid, and more.
According to the event’s organizers, those who take part will gain confidence, and it can also help them to build connections with their neighbors as they share what they have learned with other members of the community. A catalog printing company will be able to supply an assortment of training manuals and other instructional materials for a course like this.
The first CORE workshop will be held on February 9, and the second will be on February 16. Anyone who is interested in registering to take part can follow the directions posted on the City of Oakland’s website.
