Baby birds in Oakland receive a helping hand

The Oakland Zoo and the Golden Gate Audubon Society (GGAS) have joined forces to provide a helping hand to some very small charges.

The organizations came together to help young snowy egrets and black crowned night herons that had fallen onto the city streets below. There are at least 75 nests in the area, and the baby birds sometimes fall when they outgrow them. By all accounts, this nesting season has been a busy one.

When a fledgling in need of rescue is reported, the zoo sends out a crew to come to its aid and provide it with immediate care. From there, it goes to Fairfield’s International Bird Rescue so that it can be rehabilitated, taught the skills it will need to survive, and hopefully released back into the wild.

In order to help make people aware of what to do should they find a baby bird that has fallen, the GGAS started a public education campaign. To do so, they used chalk art drawings and Posters, and held walking tours to help make more people aware of the herons and the role they play in the area’s ecosystem. Poster printing enterprises can play a role in situations like this by designing a variety of promotional items.
