John Wayne’s birthday will be celebrated later this month by the city of Newport Beach.
At the Balboa Island Museum, there will be an exhibit about the actor’s life in Southern California and Newport Beach, which he considered to be his home. Featured will photographs of his private yacht, which is still docked in the city, and of Wayne and his Bay Shores home and in Southern California.
At the Newport Beach Library, there will be another exhibit of 15 prints taken by John Hamilton of Wayne on set. Among the films on display in which Wayne acted will be ‘The Who Shot Liberty Valence’ and ‘El Dorado’.
Finally, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held that will rename Ensign View Park to John Wayne Park. The city had intended to build a statue of Wayne at the park but the project was never undertaken.
The two exhibits will open on May 26, the same day of the ribbon-cutting ceremony. During the evening, the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, which is collaborating with the museum to showcase Wayne’s life, will also hold a fundraiser on Wayne’s boat.
The city might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to promote this special celebration and exhibits with Flyers that. These can be distributed to residents and others in surrounding communities.
