Hikers in Concord have a special event coming up.
Mangini Ranch will be the place to be early in the morning, for a meditation hike. The hike has been organized by the Save Mount Diablo organization. The expanse, which covers 208 acres, includes grassland, buckeyes, oaks, a grove of the rare desert olive, a spring, and the Galindo Creek headwaters. In addition to the plants and shrubs, there are animals and birds for hikers to spot, including quail, borrowing owls, and even coyotes and bobcats.
The hike is two hours in length, during which time several stops will be made to take time for a short meditation. Organizers advise there is one strenuous part of the route, and they urge hikers to wear sturdy shoes or boots; dress in layers; and bring a snack, sunscreen, and water. The total distance of the hike is 2.4 miles, and the terrain is rated as easy/moderate, with a change in elevation of 600 feet.
Sharon Lawrence and Paul Salemme of Save Mount Diablo will be leading the hike. The organization uses community education, stewardship, advocacy, and land acquisition to restore and protect the natural area.
The free Mangini Ranch Meditation Hike is scheduled for August 1, from 7.00 am until 9.00 am. Hikers should meet at the gate adjacent to 5318 Crystal Ranch Drive, which is in Concord. Poster printing can be used to create Signs designating meeting areas for events like this.
