The Concord Pet Food Express store will be joining several other such stores in the area in the store’s annual Giving Tree fundraiser, which provides toys and treats to pets without homes during the holiday season.
The store is partnering with more than a hundred rescues and pet shelters in California to help homeless puppies, kittens, and other animals.
The fundraiser runs through the end of the month and help can be given by donating a treat or toy, or making a monetary donation.
According to the founder of Pet Food Express, Michael Levy, although homeless animals need help throughout the year, shelters are busiest during the holiday season and this stress can be passed down to the animals in the shelters themselves. Animal experts say that having something to chew on, or a toy, can help reduce their stress.
He added that customers who do participate in this fundraiser can get a discount off their next purchase. They can also contact him to find out when deliveries will be made to the many shelters throughout California, so they can donate their items directly to the animals and watch the effect the toy or treat has on the pet.
