New IT chief appointed in Concord

Concord officials recently announced that the city has a new IT director.

Gregory Taylor will be joining Concord's staff as the city's new director of information technology. Taylor served in the same capacity for the City of Vallejo, overseeing technology services for the entire city, including its water and police departments.

Taylor has been working in information technology for 19 years, including seven years in the Air Force, where he oversaw about 80 employees in an IT division. He also spent twelve years in Vallejo, where he was first hired by the police to help the department develop its technological services and programs.

Valerie Barone, Concord's city manager, said that Taylor has a strong background in security, and in network operations. His peers and colleagues have recommended him highly, particularly for his ability to use limited resources to complete projects. Barone went on to say she and other officials believe Taylor will be a great asset to the city's leadership.

For his part, Taylor said he was looking forward to joining Concord's staff, particularly as the city is currently working on several initiatives he finds intriguing. These include a Broadband Master Plan, innovative technology that will help improve public safety, and efforts to bolster efforts for Concord to become a Smart City.
