Local group to host outdoor Shakespeare

CalShakes & SFShakes, two Shakespeare-related acting groups, have announced that they will be partnering to offer multiple free Shakespeare performances.

They will be performing “Cymbeline,” a romantic adventure by The Bard, during multiple days in September. Performances like this are often promoted through poster printing.

The play is believed to be one of Shakespeare’s final ones. The troupes performing it note that it is a mix of adventure, romance, and comedy, making it a suitable play for all ages. As one of Shakespeare’s lesser-known plays, it may give individuals a chance to see his work from an entirely new perspective, while also allowing them an opportunity to see an outdoor play at the end of summer.

The venue is Bruns Amphitheatre, 100 California Shakespeare Theater Way, in Orinda, which is just outside of Concord. There is no assigned seating for this play, and individuals are encouraged to bring their own chairs and arrive early to get good seats. Tickets are free, and there is no need to reserve early.

Performances will be held on September 16, 17, 23, and 24, which are Saturdays and Sundays. The performances start at roughly 4:00 pm, with no end time listed. Outside food is not allowed into the Bruns Amphitheater, given that it is a nut-free zone. However, a concession stand is available for anyone who wants to buy food or drink.
